In 2015, the Rotary Club of Sierra Madre founded the Rigel Humanitarian STAR Awards to honor scientists that use their achievements to benefit humanity. The awards recognize innovations with humanitarian applications in the following categories: health and medical, knowledge sharing, environmental improvement, and disaster relief and recovery.

After a brief hiatus due to COVID-19, the Fifth Annual Rigel Humanitarian STAR Awards will be announced soon. Details forthcoming. Tickets include “Meet the Scientists”, a reception with free drinks, followed by the banquet and Awards ceremony (which includes talks by award recipients).
